Coaching for Academic Success!

Academic coaching is one method for improving study and organizational skills. Coaching puts the focus on the student and provides the training and support necessary to turn the organizational skills over to the student.  Coaching is not skill specific tutoring; it places the focus on the development of efficient and effective tools for school and homework assignments.  Coaching helps the student identify areas of academic performance where he or she feels the need to improve. In order for a student to take on more responsibility for his or her academic performance, there must be ownership of goals. Coaching provides the supportive tools necessary to accomplish these academic objectives.

Skills that might be included in coaching sessions:

Psychological Assessment

Clinical services are provided to a student experiencing difficulty in cognitive processing, memory, learning, attention or social and emotional development. A Psychological Assessment is comprehensive in scope with detailed recommendations for intervention, typically including consultaion with the school faculty and specialists. Our group also provides Supportive Coaching and Individual and Family Therapy.

Case Management

We assess a student's strengths and talent and coordinate our services with schools to enhance academic performance and social and emotional development. Based on a Case Management model, we provide services within a network that insures a child will not fall through the cracks of intesecting systems.

Academic Bridge Program

The Academic Bridge Program provides intervention for students who are "in transition" between school placements. A student meets individually with academic tutors and clinical professionals. The curriculum can be provided by the previous school or generated by School Support Services.

Workshops

The School Support Group also presents Workshops to parents and professionals on issues pertaining to academic and child development. Topics include successful school strategies, peer relationships and conflict resolution.
